February 18, 2026
GS Yuasa International Ltd.
GS Yuasa International Ltd. (GS Yuasa), is pleased to announce that its plan for the development and production of stationary lithium-ion battery, has been certified under the "Stable Supply Assurance Plan for a battery" by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI).
Global demand for Energy Storage Systems (ESS) is rapidly increasing due to their indispensable role in grid stabilization, which is essential as renewable energy becomes a primary power source. In addition, ESS deployment is expanding for purposes such as renewable energy self-consumption, peak shaving, and enhancing resilience against increasingly severe natural disasters.
Leveraging its extensive battery expertise cultivated over many years and proprietary battery life prediction technologies, GS Yuasa will contribute to the Japanese government's goal of building a next-generation power grid with renewable energy as the primary power source. This will be achieved by supplying stationary energy storage systems that achieve both high safety and sustainability for long-term operation, with all components, from lithium-ion cells to battery management systems, being manufactured in Japan.
