The World’s Largest Storage Battery Facility Delivered by GS Yuasa has Entered Service - Contributing to the Construction of a Wind Energy Transmission Network in Northern Hokkaido -

In March 2023, the world’s largest storage battery facility (equipped with about 210,000 modules and 3.3 million cells), which was delivered to North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corporation, a corporation that is represented by Tomomi Yoshimura and has its head office in Wakkanai City, Hokkaido (hereinafter referred to as Hokkaido Northern Wind Power Transmission) by GS Yuasa Corporation, a corporation that is represented by Osamu Murao, its president and has its head office in Minami-ku, Kyoto (hereinafter referred to as GS Yuasa), started its operation. This facility was ordered in 2018 and installed without incident over a 16-month period from July 2020 to November 2021. GS Yuasa is committed to the maintenance of this storage battery facility for the next 20 years.
The storage battery facility, with an output of 240 MW and a capacity of 720 MWh, is located at the Kita Toyotomi Substation of Northern Hokkaido Wind Power Transmission (Toyotomi-cho, Teshio-gun, Hokkaido). Linking with wind power generation equipment suppresses output fluctuations caused by weather changes, contributing to the stabilization of the system.
The storage battery facility is equipped with industrial lithium-ion batteries manufactured by GS Yuasa. In addition, the STARELINK service, a storage battery maintenance service that uses GS Yuasa’s proprietary remote monitoring technology and predictive and forecasting technology, constantly monitors the voltage of all cells of lithium-ion batteries and performs fault surveillance, thereby ensuring a high level of safety. In case of a failure, we utilize our nationwide service network, one of the largest in the industry, to respond to customer requests.
We will continue to contribute to the stabilization of electric power by expanding sales of lithium-ion battery storage facilities. In addition, by taking charge of system coordination, we will contribute to the further introduction of renewable energies toward achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

3. Capable of performing optimum SOC* management, which is important for fluctuation absorbing operation
4. Achieving power savings for air conditioners by reducing heat generated by charging and discharging
5. Realizing a reduced failure rate and a significant reduction in the number of replacements parts by adopting a module structure without cooling fans
6. Provided with a cubicle that is in compliance with fire prevention ordinances
