GS Yuasa to Establish a Manufacturing Plant in Ibaraki Prefecture for Next-Generation, Domestically Produced Stationary Energy Storage Systems

GS Yuasa Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 6674; “GS Yuasa”) announces that it will establish a production base for stationary energy storage systems in Ibaraki Prefecture as part of the implementation of its “Stable Supply Assurance Plan for Storage Batteries,” which was approved by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) in February 2026.* GS Yuasa will proceed with the development of the plant with the aim of commencing supply in October 2028.

Stationary energy storage systems are seeing growing demand worldwide as a source of balancing power required to stabilize electric power grids and support the expanded use of renewable energy as a primary power source. Their applications are also increasing, including the self-consumption of renewable energy, peak shaving, and enhanced resilience in response to increasingly severe natural disasters.

Leveraging its extensive experience and expertise in storage batteries, GS Yuasa manufactures all components in Japan , from lithium-ion battery cells to control systems, supported by high quality and its proprietary degradation prediction technology. By supplying stationary energy storage systems that combine safety and sustainability for long-term operation, GS Yuasa will contribute to the development of the next-generation power network envisioned by the Japanese government, in which renewable energy serves as a primary power source.

*Under the Economic Security Promotion Act, entities seeking to secure a stable supply of storage batteries may prepare and submit to the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry a plan concerning their initiatives to secure a stable supply of storage batteries and related products (a “Supply Security Plan”) and obtain certification.
