High-cycle lead-acid batteries delivered for EV charging systems in the U.S. - Contributing to the effective use of renewable energy

GS Yuasa Energy Solutions, in United States, a member of GS Yuasa group, in collaboration with Siemens, has developed Managed EV Charging and Microgrid platform utilizing SLR-1000 high-cycle lead-acid batteries, and delivered this system to Ameren of Missouri, USA in December 2024. This system stores solar-generated electricity in lead-acid batteries and charges EVs. The use of lead-acid batteries, for which recycling processes have been developed and implemented at scale, reduces the environmental burden, while the effective use of renewable energy reduces electricity consumption. With this example as a start, we will demonstrate the system’s safety, environmental friendliness, and cycle performance, and contribute to the spread of sustainable transportation and energy systems.
The SLR-1000 battery is capable of withstanding 5,000 cycles at a 70% depth of discharge, and is expected to be used in renewable energy and power storage systems in the future.

Features of the SLR-1000

Unlike the stationary lead-acid batteries used for emergency power generation, the storage batteries used for solar power generation and other applications are recharged and discharged repeatedly every day. Therefore, conventional lead-acid batteries are subject to frequent replacement due to factors such as insufficient charge.
The SLR-1000 is a high-performance lead-acid battery developed for applications that require repeated recharge and discharge, such as renewable energy and power storage systems.
Capable of 5,000 cycles of repeated use, it is a high-capacity (1,000 Ah/cell) and extremely safe energy storage device that is also suitable for peak shaving and peak shifting, solar and wind power generation systems, and smart grids and microgrids.
