Storage Facilities Large-Scale Lithium-Ion Battery Delivered to Honda Kumamoto Manufacturing and Hosoe Outboard Motor Plant

GS Yuasa Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 6674) today announced that the lithium-ion storage battery system which was ordered by Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions Corporation (“TGES”) and delivered to the Kumamoto Factory of Honda Motor Co., Ltd.*1 has begun its operation. With a capacity of 20MWh, the system is one of the largest storage battery facilities for domestic customers. GS Yuasa also announced that following the order for Honda’s Kumamoto Factory, it has also received an order from TGES for a lithium-ion storage battery system combined with a 2MWh capacity power conditioner*2 for Honda’s Hosoe Outboard Engine Plant in Hamamatsu-shi, Shizuoka Prefecture.
At the two Honda sites, GS Yuasa’s storage battery systems and support services will operate in conjunction with solar power generation systems and contribute to the efficient utilization of renewable energy.
GS Yuasa will continue contributing to the field of power supply stabilization through expanding sales of its lithium-ion battery power storage systems. By helping to facilitate power grid adjustment capabilities, GS Yuasa is also contributing to further expansion of renewable energy use in support of Japan’s commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Features of lithium-ion storage battery facilities
1. High level of safety ensured as voltage of all cells can be monitored and temperatures of all modules can be controlled
2. As the modules are fan-less, malfunctions are less likely to occur and the number of parts requiring replacement has been substantially reduced
3. Modules housed in fire prevention ordinance compliant cubicles in accordance with relevant laws and regulations
4. Able to withstand severely cold climatic conditions
5. As a small quantity hazardous material, the units save space for installation and simplify application to the fire station
Features of the new storage battery system with power conditioner
1. High degree of flexibility in terms of location for installation
Since transportation, carrying-in, and installation work can be performed for units of storage battery panels, no special vehicles or large cranes are required for installation. Compared to the large-scale container-type storage battery facilities that are the mainstream these days, this system offers much greater flexibility in selection of the site for installation, including the transportation route at the time of installation, and can also be installed in narrow spaces.
2. High degree of flexibility in system design
The system can support flexibility in design by increasing or decreasing the number of storage battery panels according to the required storage capacity.

Constant voltage monitoring and failure monitoring are performed on all of the cells to ensure the reliability of the entire system. In the event of a malfunction, GS Yuasa utilizes its nationwide service network (one of Japan’s largest) to promptly respond to customer needs.
